Meet Ordr: Comprehensive Closed-Loop Security for the Hyper-Connected Enterprise

IoT For All

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb. 26, 2019 – Ordr (www.ordr.net), a venture-backed startup led by networking and security industry veterans, launched today offering unprecedented control of network-connected systems and devices for the enterprise. The company introduced the first actionable artificial intelligence (AI)-based systems control engine that utilizes existing infrastructure and can be deployed in minutes with zero impact to existing resources. The company also announced key executive appointments including Chairman Dominic Orr and Chief Executive Officer Greg Murphy.

“Business leaders need to know that their critical assets are protected and how they are being used. IT and security teams need true closed-loop solutions, not another generation of tools triggering alerts for their staff to resolve. That’s what Ordr is delivering, a cutting-edge yet elegantly simple solution to real-world problems,” said Greg Murphy, CEO of Ordr.

“In the hyper-connected enterprise, where everything from simple IoT devices to complex multi-million-dollar systems are connected, traditional security models break down.  A recent ZK Research survey found that 61% of respondents had no or low confidence that they knew all the devices connected to the network; this is up sharply from 51% five years ago indicating that IT, security, and operations simply can’t match the scale of the problem.  Ordr provides granular device visibility at massive scale, along with the ability to predict and prevent incidents before they impact business operations,” said Zeus Kerravala, Founder and Principal Analyst at ZK Research.

The Ordr Systems Control Engine (SCE) is the only purpose-built solution that fully maps every microscopic device detail and its context – the device flow genome – at massive scale, using machine learning to completely and continuously inspect, classify and baseline the behavior of every device. The Ordr SCE architecture is unique in its ability to process enormous quantities of data in real-time, using sophisticated AI to deliver closed loop security, automatically generating policies for each class of device. The Ordr SCE is seamlessly integrated with incumbent network and security infrastructure management tools to implement policies directly and automatically.  This is truly no-touch, agentless protection for business-critical assets.

“The volume and diversity of enterprise devices is growing exponentially,” said Gnanaprakasam Pandian, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer of Ordr. “Yet there has been no analogous change in the way organizations control their network and security infrastructure. Our founding team spent decades developing those technologies. We knew we could add a new class of intelligence to systems from a spectrum of leading vendors, boosting their ability to deliver true security for the new hyper-connected enterprise. We are enabling an infrastructure evolution without requiring new infrastructure investment.”

The Ordr SCE is designed not only for IT and Security operations groups, but for line of business leaders as well. “Just about every new device we acquire has a need to connect to our network,” said Gabe Kimbrough, CISO for Mercy Care. “Some of these devices are owned and operated by IT while others are managed by Clinical Engineering, but we must ensure that all are protected. Ordr gives us detailed analytics on every connected device, including risks and vulnerabilities, in real-time.  And it gives us the ability to thoroughly regulate and protect everything more effectively with the resources we already have in place.”

Leadership Team Steeped in Business and Engineering Expertise

Dominic Orr has joined the Ordr Board of Directors as Chairman. Orr is a widely respected Silicon Valley entrepreneur with an unassailable track record of success, having led several companies from startup to multi-billion dollar valuations, including Alteon WebSystems and Aruba Networks.

“There is exponential growth in both the volume and the heterogeneity of network-connected systems,” said Orr. “This has created a serious need for a purpose-built solution that utilizes big data analytics and AI to address this rapid expansion without additional burden on network and security resources. I know from experience that the Ordr team has the breadth of technical knowledge coupled with the unwavering commitment to the customer necessary to effectively deliver such a solution.”

Ordr is led by CEO Greg Murphy, a former Senior Vice President of Business Operations and Strategy at Aruba Networks. Murphy joins Ordr co-founders Gnanaprakasam Pandian and Sheausong Yang, who were previously Chief Development Officer and Vice President of Technology, respectively, at Aruba Networks, as well as a senior management team with decades of experience in networking and security at companies such as Aruba Networks, Cisco, Forescout, Palo Alto Networks, Ruckus Wireless, and Tenable.

Series A Includes Tech/VC Luminaries

Ordr is announcing today that it completed a Series A round of funding – bringing the total raised to $16.5 million. The round was led by specialized security-focused venture capital firm TenEleven Ventures; Wing Ventures, the original seed investor, also participated in the round, as did new investor Unusual Ventures. The assembled Board of Directors gives Ordr a foundation of success and experience on which to innovate into the future:

  • Dominic Orr, Chairman, former President & CEO, Aruba Networks
  • Peter Wagner, Founding Partner, Wing Venture Capital
  • Alex Doll, Founding Partner, TenEleven Ventures
  • Greg Murphy, President & CEO, Ordr
  • Gnanaprakasam Pandian, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer, Ordr

“Ordr and its team are taking an innovative approach to securing an increasingly siloed, undermanaged and vulnerable enterprise,” said Alex Doll, Founding Partner of TenEleven Ventures. “Ordr is uniquely positioned to enable IT, SecOps and business managers to work collaboratively to first gain visibility to all their connected systems and devices and then fully close the loop by addressing vulnerabilities, regulating flows and enabling precise network segmentation. Ordr helps enterprises affirm forward control of their networks.”
