In episode #69 of the IoT For All Podcast, Ryan is joined by Marco Rodrigues, the VP of Products and Solutions at Volterra to talk about the future of edge computing, including the effects and adoption of distributed cloud computing and distributed application management.

Marco comes from a deep background in networking, telco cloud architecture and applications. Before joining Volterra, he was the VP of Solutions Architecture at Juniper and managed the architecture, design, and deployment of clouds for AT&T Mobility, Deutsche Telekom, GE, Workday, and others.

To start the episode, Marco shared a little about what Volterra does, and how it fits into the IoT space as a whole. Volterra provides a distributed cloud platform to enable the frictionless exchange of data between multi-cloud and edge sites and allowing DevOps teams to manage fleets of applications and infrastructure with greater ease.

Marco spoke to some of the industry trends around edge computing – including some of the reasons companies are moving their data processing to the edge, and a bit of background on the edge computing landscape as a whole. Marco also shared some of Volterra’s own Applications and some of the situations that brought other companies to make the change.
Changing the conversation to adoption, Marco spoke to some of the trends he’d seen as applications have evolved. He spoke to some of the drivers and challenges facing the adoption of edge computing, and what, in his opinion, it would take for it to become an industry standard.

And to close out the episode, Marco shared his thoughts on COVID-19 and how he anticipated it affecting the market long-term.
