Shenzhen, China — June 30, 2026 — Seeed Studio today announced the launch of XIAO nRF54LM20A and XIAO nRF54LM20A Sense, a series of compact, ultra-low-power wireless development boards designed for always-on sensing, motion-triggered applications, and next-generation connected devices. Built around Nordic Semiconductor’s new nRF54LM20A platform and paired with the nPM1300 PMIC, this new XIAO series delivers ultra-low power, high performance, expanded IO, and richer integration — all within the signature XIAO footprint.
Both boards are now available for pre-order via Seeed's Bazaar Webstore and AliExpress Store, with early bird pricing starting from USD $8.90 and USD $14.90 respectively.
Low power in real applications is not defined by the MCU alone. With XIAO nRF54LM20A (Sense), we‘ve worked closely with Nordic Semiconductor and aligned with their official EVB reference design, integrating the npm1300 PMIC with its recommended configuration. This is important because the official EVB design represents a validated, optimized baseline for how the nRF54LM20A should perform, and now you can have performance and power behavior that are much closer to Nordic’s EVB in a thumb-sized XIAO.
The integration of npm1300 also enables features such as shiphold mode, allowing the system to enter a true near-zero power state during storage or transport, preventing unintended battery drain before deployment.
Even small hardware decisions can have a measurable impact. With XIAO nRF54LM20A (Sense), we use R/G/B LEDs instead of addressable LEDs, eliminating standby current from LED drivers entirely. Unlike typical addressable LEDs that require continuous power to maintain state, this design ensures zero power draw when LEDs are off, while still providing full control through GPIOs.
In our internal testing using Nordic’s Power Profiler Kit II (PPK2), the board achieved a System OFF current as low as 4.93 μA when powered by a 3.7 V Li-ion battery. On the Sense version, the onboard 6-axis IMU is connected to a wake-up capable pin, allowing the device to remain in deep sleep and wake instantly on motion. This has a direct impact especially on wearables, motion-triggered edge devices, and always-on sensing scenarios.
The XIAO nRF54LM20A (Sense) adopts the Plus form factor, expanding to 28 GPIOs while remaining compact, giving developers more flexibility when building complete systems. It is also designed with SMD integration in mind, making it easier to move from development to production.
Beyond IO, the board integrates essential system components directly onboard, including USB Type-C, battery charging circuitry, Reset and User buttons, and an IPEX antenna connector for flexible RF deployment. NFC has also been further optimized for onboard use, making features like tap-to-connect and device provisioning more practical in compact designs. Together, these improvements reduce the need for external components and simplify hardware design.
The XIAO nRF54LM20A and XIAO nRF54LM20A Sense (with both the standard variants and pre-soldered variants) are now live for pre-order at USD $8.90 and USD $14.90 respectively via our official Webstore Bazaar and AliExpress Store, with shipping starting from 15, July, 2026.
