Lubbock, TX – EDST, LLC, and its subsidiary, Quext IoT, LLC, a Texas-based technology company that offers leading-edge “Smart Thermostat Hub” technology for the multifamily industry, filed a lawsuit against iApartments, Inc. on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, for patent infringement, false advertising, and unfair competition in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida. EDST and Quext are represented by the law firm of Norton Rose Fulbright US LLP.
Quext is a leading innovator in the proptech space, founded by industry experts with over 100 years of experience as multifamily real estate owner-operators. Quext offers technologies built to simplify processes and improve the lives of frontline associates, operators, ownership teams and residents alike. Quext’s “Smart Thermostat Hub” technology centers around development of patented state of the art Internet-of-Things (“IoT”) solutions that reduce upfront capital and installation costs, and simplify property operations, making it a smart apartment solution broadly available to all property types.
EDST and Quext respect the intellectual property rights of others and will vigorously defend their own intellectual property, which includes a portfolio of patents and trademarks, including U.S. Patent No. 10,825,273, No. 10,803,685, and No. 11,189,118, and several pending patent applications relating to its “Smart Thermostat Hub” technology. iApartments introduced and promoted its own line of products intended for use in multifamily residences, and Quext alleges that in doing so it willfully infringes upon several of the patents and falsely advertises that its products are an “industry-first.” After contacting iApartments to resolve the issue but being unable to reach an agreement, Quext took legal action to protect its “Smart Thermostat Hub” technology that is core to its business, and which the company has invested its resources to develop and commercialize over the past several years.
