New documentary series goes behind the scenes with IoT companies quietly redefining what’s possible

The technology reshaping our world is often the kind we don't really notice.

Sometimes, it’s a sensor buried inside a garbage bin in Bratislava, telling a city not to send a truck for trash that isn’t there yet. Sometimes, it’s a device the size of a lunchbox, sitting hundreds of kilometers offshore and reading data from a pipeline no human wants to visit. Build Connected, a new documentary series brought to life by IoT connectivity provider 1oT, in partnership with KPN IoT, takes viewers behind the scenes at the companies building that world.

The first episode follows Sensoneo, a Slovak company turning garbage collection from a system built on guesswork into one driven by real-time data. Its sensors are changing how cities decide when and where to collect waste.

Following episodes take viewers further:

• Teledyne is replacing centuries-old paper nautical charts with live, intelligent navigation systems, helping ships find their way far beyond the reach of reliable connectivity.
• Hiber is connecting some of the most remote energy operations on Earth, from wellheads deep in the Amazon jungle to offshore rigs, using satellite connectivity where traditional networks can’t reach.
• Starship Technologies is sending autonomous delivery robots onto city streets, tackling the “last mile” one sidewalk at a time.

But Build Connected isn’t just about what these companies are building. It’s about what it really takes to make it work.

Across the series, founders and engineers speak candidly about the failures, surprises, and impossible problems behind the technology: keeping thousands of devices connected through extreme heat, total isolation, open water, and environments no lab can truly replicate.
