A European hardware and software development company, Promwad, created an AI-based application that can recognize clothes and shoes from a video stream. Digital TV operators will be able to monetize this project via referral programs of online retailers.
Millions of people worldwide are influenced by videos when choosing new shoes and clothes. But the very process of looking for new items for a stylish look is not so simple: people have to google new products, browse through hundreds of images in online stores or walk kilometers through the shopping malls. This process has to be changed and made easier.
And now there is a new technology that can become a market-changer. It started with a Belarusian-American startup Oyper; they created a tech solution based on computer vision and artificial intelligence to recognize and search for visual data. This technology could be applied in any industry, but they focused on fashion e-commerce businesses.Â
This solution impressed the engineering team at Promwad, they developed an application for set-top boxes and Android-based mobile devices to empower users to find and order clothes from any video streams in a few clicks. This app is based on the neural network by Oyper.
How does it work?
When a video viewer notices on an actor or TV presenter an interesting item of clothing or shoes, he or she presses a button on a TV remote or application, then the AI system detects all clothing items within the video stream and offers the results so a viewer can choose the right one and go straight to an online store. The search results can be filtered by price, and the app users can look for similar items in lower or higher price ranges.Â
Previously there were such applications and services for visual recognition on the world market, but they only worked with photos.
Ivan Kuten, a co-owner and CTO at Promwad, describes the trends associated with the new project: “With COVID-19 quarantine, people watch thousands of movies, TV series and shows daily and learn about new fashion trends from Youtube. At the same time, the e-commerce market is growing. And our new application brings these two trends together to help people choose new clothes and make quick purchases even when they are self-isolated at home.”
Who is the target audience of this project?Â
The end-user of this technology is the subscribers of digital TV services, YouTube viewers, and the audience of social networks. However, at this stage, the project is aimed at digital TV operators and video content owners. It is they who will implement the Promwad application based on the Oyper neural network. The new technology will allow them to increase user engagement and generate additional revenue through fashion stores' referral programs and other business models.Â
Promwad has already launched several pilot projects with streaming service providers, who want to be the first in the industry to announce this solution under their brand.
Later, this feature can be implemented for other products from video streams, such as furniture, electronic devices, and household appliances.
