MistyWest is a hardware development consultancy based in Vancouver, BC that envisions a prosperous global community enabled by technology - but has felt the impact of the absence of community since the start of the pandemic.
“One of the most important ways that we make connections as creators and inventors,” says MistyWest cofounder Leigh Christie, “is through networking events and gatherings where we can share stories about the impact our work is having and meet people who are on the same mission as us.”
Christie saw an opportunity here to bridge this gap in meaningful connections. “I want to honour the unsung heroes of hardware devices and IoT with a first-of-its-kind award that will bring the community together and create new opportunities for creation.”
MistyWest’s inaugural ‘Top 20 Leaders in Intelligent and Connected Devices’ awards (AKA the Misties) are for contemporary and active inventors, hackers, engineers, product designers, and business leaders who have made the most profound impact when it comes to intelligent and connected devices, and are bringing great technological advances to the world.

Among the prize partners for the Misties are Solidworks, Adafruit and Nordic Semiconductor, who are offering up to $15K in cash and $40K in-kind prizes for the Top 20 winners.
The Top 20 will be announced in a virtual ceremony on April 14, 2022 that will include a keynote address and an opportunity for judges, nominees and a few special guests to introduce themselves to one another and make meaningful connections.
“Because this is our first year, we are only doing a virtual event,” says Christie, “but we have plans to do an in-person event next year, where we can bring the winners out to Vancouver and do some west coast activities like hiking and campfires. We really want this to be a unique and meaningful experience for everyone involved.”
If you’re interested in attending the Misties' virtual awards ceremony, you can register through Eventbrite.
