4,400 Milesight Sensors Placed in Canadian Buildings

IoT For All

Xiamen, China, November 9th, 2022 – Milesight, a fast-growing AIoT solutions provider, partners with Peak Power which is dedicated to meeting net zero objectives, to accelerate Canadian legacy buildings transformation and new smart building deployment. Now both are thrilled to announce great progress in this project by leveraging Milesight smart building solution.

Why the Demand for Legacy Building Upgrade Is Surging

Buildings have been always the largest consumers of electricity, with over 50 percent of global electricity consumption, outpacing the industrial sector, which has become an urgent issue that must be solved. Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic demands healthier and safer environment for buildings. This trend is strengthened by the reopening of commercial buildings. Facility managers and corporate tenants now are trying their best to look for feasible ways to upgrade legacy buildings to save energy as well as provide safer indoor air quality.

  • Health and safety concerns
  • Energy use reducing and net zero target achieving
  • The need to operate under different conditions, both planned and unforeseen

As energy efficiency and safer indoor air quality become the top priority, Milesight data-driven smart building solution can perfectly satisfy the need. By leveraging Milesight professional know-how and technology, this solution turns environment data into actionable insights to guide the whole building operation, thus optimizing energy efficiency and indoor air quality as well as ensuring consistent occupant comfort and health.

How Milesight Smart Building Solution Can Help

This project spans more than 60 Canadian leading commercial buildings. Milesight LoRaWAN® sensors are installed on each floor respectively to collect or monitor essential building data, including indoor ambience temperature, humidity, CO2, TVOC, HCHO, PM2.5, etc. Apart from these indoor air quality monitoring, what spotlights the solution is space utilization. Based on AI technology, Milesight AI Workplace Occupancy Sensor monitors occupancy and utilization in modern workspace through anonymous people counting. By coordinating with the whole building system, it can help save more than 10 percent of energy.

The Milesight LoRaWAN® gateways are installed approximately every 3-stories to gather data and have been tested to be working at least 2km away. Then the embedded network server is going to forward data by MQTT to Peak Power’s platform via the cellular network.

With Peak Power’s platform, operation managers can remotely monitor smart building conditions, equipment, and occupancy. AI-powered analytics helps to forecast peaks in demand so as to deliver data-driven recommendations for optimizing energy consumption at peak times and increasing indoor air quality whenever needed. For instance, automatic alerts can be received when the indoor temperature leaves the range of 21℃-26℃, humidity falls below 40 percent, and the environmental condition makes occupants more vulnerable to viral respiratory infections, or when CO2 levels exceed 800 ppm indicating that not enough fresh air for the number of people in the smart building.

Values to Commercial Buildings

  • Increase energy efficiency and lower power consumption
  • Provide accurate indoor air quality actionable insights
  • Allow wider and more solid network coverage
  • Lower maintenance and labor costs by LoRaWAN®Technology

“After the deployment, we found that the signal coverage of Milesight products was so wide and solid as five gateways could cover a 19-story building. What’s more, after one year of use, the power of the devices only consumed by 3 percent, so there was no need to change the battery frequently, which greatly lower the maintenance cost,” says Peak Power Project Manager.

Looking to the Future from a Strong Base in the Present

Milesight sensor solution is helping upgrade Canadian legacy buildings into smarter ones that are better monitored, more controllable, increasingly responsive, and technology-enhanced, delivering safer and healthier indoor air quality as well as higher energy efficiency.

The future of buildings is still being written. Milesight has left its own marks on the history of the Canadian buildings and will be an example of legacy building transformation within North America and even worldwide.
