Wialon's Top GPS Hardware Manufacturers: Teltonika Telematics in First

IoT For All

Wialon, an ultimate platform for GPS tracking and IoT used worldwide, named 10 leaders of 2022 in the telematics hardware market. The first place goes to Teltonika Telematics, one of the leading companies developing and manufacturing telemetry solutions, who is mostly famous for its high-quality GPS devices. The winners of the GPS Hardware Manufacturers Top 10 award were announced during the Telematics Vilnius 2022 conference that took place in August in Lithuania.

GPS Hardware Manufacturers Top 10 is a ranking designed by Wialon to single out telematics and IoT hardware manufacturers whose devices have been connected to Wialon more frequently than others over the previous year. In 2022, the top 10 most popular brands were identified from 690 hardware companies whose devices are integrated with Wialon.

Teltonika Telematics, who designs, develops, manufactures and supplies vehicle GPS trackers, accessories and software solutions, ranks first in the GPS Hardware Manufacturers Top 10 awards list. Navtelecom ranks second. Queclink, Jimi IoT, and Ruptela are also in the top five. Unlike other markets, for instance, consumer electronics or commercial electronics equipment, Chinese manufacturers do not lead the ranking by Wialon.

Lithuanian GPS hardware manufacturers made it to the list this year. Together with the leader, Teltonika Telematics, Ruptela and Xirgo | Sensata Insights demonstrate the growing importance of Lithuania on the IoT and telematics map of the world. Worth mentioning that American Sensata acquired Xirgo Technologies in 2021, which had previously acquired BCE (Baltic Car Equipment), the Lithuanian trackers manufacturer.

“I can confidently say that the results of the GPS Hardware Manufacturers Top 10 awards held by Wialon deserve attention in the international market. Today, Wialon-based solutions are implemented in over 150 countries, our partners use hardware from 690 manufacturers, 3.3 million vehicles worldwide are connected to Wialon, which makes it the largest global GPS tracking and IoT platform, with the team headquartered in Lithuania, EU. These figures show the considerable scale, which allows us to make conclusions about the real demand for this or that GPS hardware on the market. According to the results of 2021, Teltonika Telematics is the undisputed leader,” says Aliaksandr Kuushynau, Head of Wialon.

Despite the difficulties that GPS hardware manufacturers faced due to the post-pandemic effects and the semiconductor crisis, Teltonika Telematics is demonstrating growth. As they say in the Teltonika group of companies, which includes Teltonika Telematics, they were ready for the crisis and, on the contrary, perceived it as an opportunity for growth. In 2020, the company grew by 40–50 percent, and in 2021, their turnover increased by 101 percent. There were several reasons for growth.

First, the shortage of components, especially semiconductor chips, has become a big problem for many companies on the market. Teltonika Telematics, thanks to the stock available in their warehouses, could ensure supplies even when others were unable to.

The second reason for growth is the reorganization of the company in 2020. Today, Teltonika comprises five separate and independent organizations with their own administrations, and the division related to vehicle telematics is one of them. This decision helped them speed up the work, and the regional expansion allowed the company to double its annual turnover.

Now Teltonika has far-reaching plans: the company is exploring the possibilities of 6G technologies, sees the future in robotics, plans to build a proprietary semiconductor fabrication plant and increase the number of employees worldwide to 33,000 by 2030.

“Chip shortage was a major challenge in 2021 and we managed to cope with it successfully thanks to our R&D department, which actively researched the alternative components available in the market. As a result, we were able to adjust our production processes and offer sufficient amounts of devices. Despite some relief already being felt, disruptions in supply chains remain an issue in 2022, especially when it comes to technologically most advanced semiconductors. We are aware of the ongoing challenges and take actions well in advance to make sure we are ready to meet them timely. Our eyes are set on further growth and delivering the value of telematics to our business partners worldwide,” says Antanas Segzda, CEO of Teltonika Telematics.
