Acoustic or non-speech events such as a baby crying, dog barking, glass breaking, or an elderly person suffering from a coughing attack often require immediate action. Yet to manually monitor for such events requires constant and uninterrupted attention. ID R&D’s Acoustic Event Detection shifts the burdensome task of monitoring from a human to technology. With an extremely low false positive rate, the software’s sensitivity is ideal for automated monitoring. The new capability can turn any microphone – like those in smart speakers and cameras – into a security device. Acoustic Event Detection provides continuous monitoring of an audio stream or analyzes an audio snippet and then delivers a result of what type of sound event occurred. The types of events it can detect include a baby crying, glass breaking, gunshots, excessive coughing and sneezing, cries for help, screaming, moaning, and audible alarms. Furthermore, adding new events is straightforward and can be customized to specific needs. The AI-based algorithms run embedded on a server or locally on a camera or other microphone-enabled devices, and it analyzes and returns results nearly instantaneously. Acoustic Event Detection is valuable in a variety of scenarios when deployed with microphones in cameras, smart speakers, or IoT devices: home security, building security, connected home leisure activities, elder or infant care, and more.
