
Predictive maintenance is the method for using statistical analysis and historical data about a machine or IoT system in order to derive from its current condition when it will need maintenance or improvement. It relies heavily on Machine Learning or Artificial Intelligence for these decisions. The goal is to save money and time over scheduled maintenance because service is only performed when needed, resulting in less waste, and also in less downtime. Predictive maintenance is different from preventive maintenance because the true current condition of the equipment is the basis for automated decision-making, rather than based on service period estimates.
